Horizon: Zero Dawn’s Graphics Have Set A New Bar That We Want To Top, Says Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann

'The graphics are staggering.'

Just when you thought that Uncharted 4 would probably be the peak of what the PS4 can achieve with its graphics, Guerrilla Games came along with Horizon: Zero Dawn, and stunned us all with a game that looks even better. Equally importantly, they did so with a fully open world game, making their achievement that much more impressive.

It is an achievement that Sony’s Naughty Dog acknowledges- in new video where Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann talks to Guerrilla Games’ managing director Hermen Hulst, Druckmann professes an admiration for Horizon‘s graphics, exulting that a new bar has been set that he is eager to top.

“The graphics are staggering. I don’t even think of it as graphics because I’m in the woods. I’m in this overgrown environment, and I’m like, ‘How are they getting so much foliage, such density in an open-world game’,” Druckmann said. “You better believe I’m going to my team, and I’m saying like, “Okay. This is the bar now.”, he continued. “We have to top this.” It’s awesome. We’re super excited for you guys, we know how hard you worked on this game.”

Friendly rivalry between studios is always great, of course- and given how talented Naughty Dog is, I have no idea that they may just be able to pull something off and make The Last of Us 2 even more of a stunner. In the end, we benefit by having all these great, gorgeous games to play on our consoles.
