A recent survey from GDC found the platforms that developers are most interested to work on and it should surprise no one that the Wii U comes in a distant last place among consoles and well behind the PC as well. The report, taken from a survey of more than 2,000 developers recently found that the PC is actually the most popular platform to work on, as 52 percent said they were working on a game for it.
Second place in those rankings was the mobile platform, with 44 percent saying they were working on a game in that market. When it comes to the console end of things, IGN reports that the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One are running neck and neck in regards to developers working on a project for those platforms right now. Sony edges out Microsoft by a few points, 27 to 23 and then there is a rather large drop off when it comes to the Wii U.
The Wii U only managed to have five percent of developers say they were working on a project for that platform. The 3DS did even worse, with just two percent of developers saying they were working on a game for the handheld platform. At the same time, just one percent of developers said they were working on something for the NX. Of course, that shouldn’t come as a huge surprise, considering the company hasn’t officially unveiled it. Perhaps the low number of people working on the Wii U is why even games like Minecraft: Story Mode took so long to come to the platform.
