Killer Instinct Ranked Crossplay Test Scheduled for February 9th to 12th

Steam players can finally compete against those on Xbox/Windows in Ranked Play, though leaderboards are being kept separate.

Iron Galaxy Studios released Killer Instinct Anniversary Edition last November, but it still has some updates coming up for fans. That includes Ranked Crossplay between PC users on Steam and Xbox/Windows. In new post, it confirmed a “very experimental” test run for this weekend.

The Ranked Crossplay Test will begin on February 9th at noon PST and conclude on February 12th. Some things worth noting include the separation of leaderboards for both platforms, described as a “necessary compromise” to allow Ranked Crossplay.

“If a Steam player gets a win over an Xbox player, the Steam player will gain points for the Steam Leaderboard, while the Xbox player will lose points for the Xbox Leaderboard,” says the developer. The function to block cross-network play in Ranked will also be bypassed during the test, though it won’t affect other modes. Players must also pass a performance test for 60 FPS before online matches.

As for when the feature will go live, Iron Galaxy noted that the Ranked Crossplay Test will determine “if we will add this feature in a future update, pending evaluation of results and the community’s feedback.” Players are thus encouraged to share their thoughts, “and we’ll do everything we can to make it the best experience.”

Stay tuned for more updates on Ranked Crossplay in the coming months. Killer Instinct is available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
