Layers of Fears, the latest sequel in Bloober Team’s first-person psychological horror series, received its first gameplay trailer at the Future Games Showcase. The story involves a pianist and a painter, the latter sounding very familiar to the twisted protagonist of the first game (while the former seems to be his tormented spouse. Check it out below.
Developed on Unreal Engine 5, Layers of Fears promises “horror reimagined,” building off the foundations of the first two games. It features 4K resolution and HDR support, ray tracing, and the Lumen system for immersive lighting. Though the entire story has yet to be outlined, it will showcase the “stories of artists enslaved by their obsessions” while casting a “new light on the overarching narrative.”
Regardless, there are numerous hallways to explore (with chains representing how the pianist is seemingly trapped) and fire. Lots and lots of fire. Also, a lighthouse, which may be a reference to the second game’s ship setting.
Layers of Fears launches in early 2023 for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
