Lies of P Developer Tweaks Dodging and Durability Before Launch

Director Jiwon Choi says it's now more "smooth and flexible" when dodging while changing actions is "shorter and smoother."

Amid all the games releasing in September, there’s NEOWIZ’s Lies of P, a Souls-like action RPG set in the Belle Epoque era. The demo received a decent response but mixed reactions to the dodging. Speaking to Eurogamer at Gamescom, director Jiwon Choi revealed that changes have been made, and it’s now more “flexible.”

“When we switched the dodging part, we made it smooth and flexible when you dodge. Also, when you change to another movement or action, we made it shorter and smoother to make it easier to switch.”

As for weapon durability, which requires repeatedly sharpening them, Choi said, “We had some feedback that [durability] is hard to adapt to. We had to adjust it a little bit. Overall [feedback] was about getting used to the combat system. That was the main part we have changed.” However, he added, “We cannot list every little thing we have changed after the demo version, but of course, we took everything thoroughly into account to make it better.”

This could explain why the demo will no longer be available after September 5th (at least on Steam). So much is changing in the main game that it may not be the best presentation. Time will tell, of course, so stay tuned.

Lies of P launches on September 19th for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5 and PC. Check out the latest gameplay here. The main story is about 30 hours long, not including side quests, but there are also three different endings to unlock, encouraging more playthroughs.
