Lords of the Fallen – Umbral, Soul Flay, Withered Damage, and More Detailed in New Video

The Umbral Lamp is to interact with the Land of the Dead but offers many other uses in the upcoming Souls-like action RPG.

Hexworks’ Lords of the Fallen has received several details lately, whether it’s showcasing the various doomed locations players travel to or the boss battles. We’ve even seen how the uninterrupted co-op shakes out. In a new video from IGN, more details were revealed about Umbral and the Umbral Lamp, the latter serving as a powerful tool in combat.

Umbral is the Land of the Dead, and players go there when they die in Axiom. Using the Umbral Lamp allows for crossing pathways in the realm otherwise inaccessible in the Land of the Living. It also provides a second chance since escaping from Umbral when dead allows for resurrecting and not backtracking from the nearest save point.

However, the Umbral Lamp has other functions. It can pull an enemy’s soul out to damage it, a technique known as Soul Flay. Damage to the soul is Withered Damage, and if you land a regular attack on the enemy once their soul returns to their body, it carries over. Another cool trick is controlling the direction of a soul, allowing you to displace enemies and letting gravity do the killing.

It’s all very intriguing, and we can’t wait to get our hands on the full game when it launches on October 13th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC. Check out some more gameplay here.
