Tis the season for delays when it comes to remakes and remasters. The latest is Hangar 13’s delay of Mafia: Definitive Edition, which was scheduled to launch on August 28th. It’s now set to release on September 25th and will have a gameplay reveal on July 22nd.
A recent statement from Hangar 13 and publisher 2K Games said, “Though we’d originally planned to release the game one month earlier on August 28, finalizing everything in time for that launch date has become increasingly challenging due to the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic, and the last thing we want to do is compromise the quality of the experience.”
The statement notes the game to be a “passion project.” “Many of our developers helped create the original Mafia, and all of us are committed to crafting an updated experience worthy of that timeless classic.” The studio committed to making the title the “very best it can be for all of our fans worldwide.”
Though an extended gameplay reveal will be provided in two weeks, a 15-second teaser can be seen below. It showcases gorgeous new textures and improved lighting, though we’ll have to wait and see how it actually plays. After all, the developer has already seen complaints of performance issues for Mafia 2: Definitive Edition and Mafia 3: Definitive Edition.
The extra time should hopefully allow any lingering issues to be ironed out. Mafia: Definitive Edition will be coming to Xbox One, PS4, PC and Google Stadia.
