Stan Lee is a name that almost any Marvel fan will be familiar with. He not only created the original Avengers concept, almost every character that the MCU brought to life on screen was one he had some hand in creating. While he’s no longer with us, as Lee died last year, it seems his presence will still be felt in the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers and how its story was handled.
In an interview with TechRadar, Scot Amos, Head of Crystal Dynamics, revealed that early in the game’s development, the team went to Lee to ask him about writing an authentic Marvel story. It’s not clear to what degree he helped inform the whole narrative, but it seems his advice helped them nail down the characterizations of these classic characters and how they’ll present them to both established fans and newcomers.
“Stan was a complicated guy. He just loved his characters. We actually asked him, what does he want to do and what is his characterization. We had questions through fans and members of even Marvel, saying, ‘Well, what can we ask him? What is his relationship [with us]? What do we have to do?’
“The beauty of Stan was that he made these characters because he wants to love them and enjoy them. He had this perception that any comic could be somebody’s first – and that stuck with me.”
Marvel’s Avengers will launch May 15th 2020 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Stadia. For a look at the newest addition to the roster, Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, take look through here.
