Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Has a Significantly Smaller File Size on PS5 Than PS4

Eidos Montreal's Guardians of the Galaxy weighs in significantly less on the PS5 when compared to its file size on the PS4.

Eidos Montreal’s upcoming game Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy releases tomorrow, and Sony’s latest machine has a significantly smaller file size when compared to its last-gen counterpart. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy weighs in at around 31 GB on the PS5, while it weighs in 60 GB on the PS4, as pointed out by @Zuby_Tech on Twitter.

The reasoning behind this can be attributed to the PS5’s Kraken compression technology. Using this new technique of compression, games can actually take less space all the while supporting the heaviest texture files. Given the fact that games’ file sizes can be in the hundreds of gigabytes at times and expanding the PS5 storage is still a costly affair, it’s great that Eidos Montreal utilized the technology.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy‘s reviews are out now, including GamingBolt’s own, which gave it a sold 8/10 score. Critics have praised the game’s faithful representation of the source material. Our review reads, “Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy might be by-the-numbers, but it’s a consistently enjoyable experience with great characters and an engaging story, thanks to an excellent understanding of what makes this property tick.”
