While there’s still plenty of time before Mass Effect: Andromeda is going to be hitting the store shelves, there are a group of fans that think they have uncovered a rather big detail. We’ve known for a little while that Shepard isn’t going to be in the game, though Bioware has said it thinks the game can be very good even without that very much loved character.
Now fans have taken a good long look at the trailer the company released during their N7 Day celebration and they think they have found out the name of the person who will replace Shepard as the protagonist. In the video, A dog tag spotted 0.44 seconds into the trailer appears to read Ryder or Rider. Reddit user Benelioto, was the one who made the discovery, and that user thinks the name could be a sly reference to Sally Ride, the first American woman in space.
This makes sense, as Shephard was named after the first American man in space, Alan Shepard. This would also be a clue as to why Johnny Cash’s Ghost Riders in the sky was used in the trailer. Bioware isn’t saying whether or not these fans are onto something, but a tweet from the company did seem to throw another clue out there saying, “there are very good reasons for that choice of song for the trailer that should become clear later on.” Mass Effect Andromeda is due for Holiday release of 2016 but hopefully we’ll know the name of the hero before then.
