May has seen notable activity as far as major game releases are concerned. Mass Effect: Legendary Edition was the big new release last week, and unsurprisingly, it has debuted on top of the UK retail charts, as per data provided by Gfk (via GamesIndustry), with 68% of its sales coming on the PS4. It’s only managed about half of what Resident Evil Village sold last week, but it’s worth noting that these charts only account for physical sales.
Meanwhile, the aforementioned Resident Evil Village has dropped down to second place following a 59% drop in sales. Subnautica: Below Zero was yet another new release, and it debuted in fifth place, with 46% sales on PS4, 36% on Xbox One, and 17% on PS5. Meanwhile, thanks to a long overdue restocking of the PS5, several games have seen boosts in sales, with Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales seeing the most significant one. An 88% increase has brought it straight to third place.
Though unusually there’s no Switch games in the top 5, the rest of the charts are dominated by Switch titles, including Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury and New Pokemon Snap, and perennial sellers like Minecraft, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
