Metal Gear Solid 5: Snake’s Walkman Loads Custom Soundtracks, Useless on PS4

For now, that is.

If you’ve paid close attention to the trailers and gameplay footage for Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain, you’ll notice that Big Boss/Solid Snake is touting an old-school Walkman that plays tapes. Director Hideo Kojima indicated on Twitter that this Walkman could be used to load custom soundtracks into the game. So if you want to murder fools to the tune of “If You Wanna Be My Lover” then you may.

However, those on the PS4 won’t be able to do this due to the lack of MP3 and CD support for the console. Though Sony indicated that these would be added in at a latter date, it’s been more almost two months now and no signs have emerged for the same. You could use Sony’s Music Unlimited service but that comes with a price.

Hopefully a solution will arrive before Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes launches in March. It’s due to launch on PS3, PS4, Xbox One and Xbox 360 on March 18th in North America and March 20th in Europe.
