Considering just how well Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain has sold since it was first launched, it shouldn’t come as real surprise that Konami might want to keep the series going. Pixel Dynamo has pointed out that Konami issued a series of tweets, that were direct quotes from inside the game. What makes this particularly newsworthy is that the company generally doesn’t do this.
That has led to more than a few people deciding the company might actually be hinting they have officially decided to keep the series rolling. The first question that always comes to mind when talking about something like this, is that the famed director of the series, Hideo Kojima is not going to be involved because he and the company had a very public split not that long ago. Still, it really doesn’t seem as though the company would do something like this, without a plan in place to follow through.
There’s very little doubt that plenty of fans are going to decide the tweets are meant to indirectly announce something. Certainly, this isn’t the sort of thing where Metal Gear Solid 6 is going to be announced anytime soon. If that is what’s going on here, it likely won’t be for quite a while. On the other hand, Konami going out of its way to get people thinking about such a scenario seems to indicate another game in the series is a real possibility. For now, we’ll be content to play some more Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain.
