Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain MB Coins Are Ridiculously Expensive

You can pay as little as $1.65 or as much as $79.95

Last week, we started hearing about the fact that Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is going to have some micro-transactions when it comes to building and fortifying your Motherbase in the online PVP mode. Today, the prices of the in game currency was revealed. Of course, until we know just how far  say, 100 Motherbase coins is going to take us it’s hard to say whether or not the prices are out of whack.

Certainly there are a couple of higher level packs that are ridiculously expensive but that happens in the micro-transactions world. Those packs wouldn’t exist if there weren’t people who were willing to pay for them. When the in-game currency first came to light, there was some confusion over whether it would be required to buy some Motherbase coins in order to actually play the online PVP mode at all.

Konami has said that the micro-transactions are going to be available “primarily as an accelarator” and that Motherbase coins will be something players can earn throughout the game as well. The company is apparently offering the ability to buy their way into the Motherbase mode for those who don’t want to wait and complete enough, or specific missions in order to earn them.

If people are willing to pay as much as $80 on top of the $60 they paid for the game itself, then more power to them. As long as people who bought the game can get access to the same content as long as they’re willing to work for it, it’s caveat emptor. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain will release on the PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, Xbox One and the PC starting tomorrow, September 1.

Thanks, Metal-Gear.net.
