Hideo Kojima may be gone but Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain continues to be a bread winner for Konami. The open world action adventure title shipped six million units according to the company’s recent financial report. Last reported figure was five million units shipped in October 2015.
Konami also reported strong revenue and profits in its Digital Entertainment division. Revenue was at ¥93.4 billion (or $771.8 million) with a profit of ¥25.5 billion ($210.8 million), which equates to a 37.5 percent and 138.7 percent rise over the same period in 2015.
Interestingly, despite the company straying away from triple-A releases and focusing more on mobile games and pachinko, the Digital Entertainment division posted the highest revenue growth. By comparison, Gaming & Systems – consisting of slot machines – offered a 4.8 percent rise while Pachislot & Pachinko machine revenue fell by 18.3 percent.
The company is currently forecasting ¥243 billion ($2 billion) in revenue for the end of the financial year, up from ¥228 billion ($1.9 billion). Operating profit forecasts also rose from ¥17 billion ($140 million) to ¥24 billion ($198.4 million).
