Ever since Metal Gear Solid 5 was announced back in 2012, Hideo Kojima made it clear that he is handling mature, dark and taboo themes in The Phantom Pain. These dark themes were strongly touched upon in Ground Zeroes, the prologue to The Phantom Pain. This resulted into a bit of controversy which led many to believe that Kojima will tone them down in The Phantom Pain.
However in a recent interview conducted by GamingBolt, Konami’s community manger Robert Allen Peeler has revealed that there have been no changes in the themes and The Phantom Pain will resemble the tone of Ground Zeroes.
“The story resembles the tone and intrigue that was present in Ground Zeroes. Remember, this is a story of revenge, where Snake, Kaz and their new crew of Diamond Dog mercenaries are eager to take back what they lost at the end of the events on Camp Omega. Characters like Skullface and Quiet likewise add new elements in the story that detail the Metal Gear universe in new and unexpected ways,” Robert said to GamingBolt.
The Phantom Pain will deal with several controversial themes such as torturing women, child soldiers and what not. You can read our full interview with Robert here. The game comes out on September 1st for the PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3.
