Sony are launching the PlayStation 4 Pro this November for $399. This gives PlayStation a head start of one year before the Xbox Scorpio launches next year and given its affordability, it’s sure to sell like hot cakes. Furthermore, Microsoft’s Scorpio is shaping to be a “premium” device something that many are assuming to cost a lot more than $399.
However, is that really the case? In an interview with EuroGamer, Microsoft’s Albert Penello was asked twice about the Scorpio’s price point and on both occasions he dodged those questions. “Well, we haven’t announced the price yet, so we’ll see,” he stated in the first instance and when pushed for more information on whether the PS4 Pro will be cheaper than Scorpio, he replied with the following: “It will be an interesting discussion next time we chat.”
It’s obvious that Microsoft won’t comment on a product that is more than a year away but Sony will most likely cut down the PS4’s Pro price down to $350 in late 2017 making it an even better proposition than the Scorpio. Microsoft needs to launch Scorpio at $399 to make it a viable option for players looking to upgrade.
