Microsoft First Party Games Might Be Cross-Gen For A Few Years After Next Xbox’s Launch – Report

Microsoft's next Xbox might not have any true exclusives for a while.

Microsoft’s lineup of first party studios is an impressive one now, and if previous reports are to be believed, they’re not done with their spending spree just yet. However, if new bit of information arising out of Windows Central is to be believed, Microsoft won’t be commissioning the newly rebranded Xbox Game Studios to work on Xbox Scarlett exclusives anytime soon- because reportedly, at least for a few more years yet, all first party Microsoft titles might be cross-gen.

The next Xbox consoles are reportedly going to be running on a brand new OS, based on Windows Core, called Game Core, which will bring about things such as a new dashboard, and put speed and fluidity “at the forefront”. However, Windows Central claims that Microsoft might end up needing more time to finish up their work on Game Core, and as such, there might “potentially” be a period after the launch of Xbox Scarlett where Xbox Game Studios titles will be releasing for both, the next generation of Xbox, as well as the current gen Xbox One models.

As Windows Central’s own report clarifies, there aren’t too many details out there on this right now, so it’s best to take this all with a grain of salt. If, however, this does end up being true, it’ll be interesting to see how Microsoft markets the next generation of Xbox in the absence of any real exclusives, and how their next gen titles will be affected by having to keep the limitations of the Xbox One in mind as well- though Xbox One owners will certainly be happy.

Either way, stay tuned, and we’ll keep you updated in case there’s any new info.
