More than a few people have wondered over the last few months just how well the experience of PC release Microsoft Flight Simulator will translate to consoles. On top of being a heavily demanding technical showpiece (that even some of the best PCs out there have issues with running well), the game also relies on a multitude of controls and inputs, an area where a gamepad just cannot compare to the good old mouse and keyboard combination.
According to Head of Microsoft Flight Simulator Jorg Neumann though, none of that is going to be a problem. Speaking in an interview with Twinfinite, Neumann promised that on the Xbox Series X/S, Microsoft Flight Simulator will look and perform great (this is not the first time he’s made that promise either), comparing the experience to just having the game on PCs with different graphics cards.
“Depending on which Xbox you bought, it’ll just be like having PCs with different video cards, but you can make adjustments,” Neumann said. “It’ll look great. It’ll perform great and it’s also cross-play which is nice, so you can play on Xbox and with your cloud saves you can move on to PC and keep playing.”
Neuman went on to say that there will be some changes made, specifically to the game’s onboarding aspects and tutorialization, to make it a better fit and more accessible for console audiences- though that will be done while also ensuring that the simulation itself isn’t dumbed down
“We’ll never dumb down the sim but there are some onboarding parts that we can do better,” he said. “We look at the tutorials quite a bit. So many people play them and they’re quite accessible, but we can probably do a better job there to make it even less scary for a newcomer, give them bite-sized things to really learn.”
Microsoft Flight Simulator is currently available for PC, and will be releasing for Xbox Series X/S this Summer.
According to Neumann, though the focus right now is on bringing the game to the newer Xbox consoles, Microsoft haven’t completely ruled out an Xbox One version either.
