Microsoft Takes Shot At Sony Over Backwards Compatibility

Shots Fired!

The talk of the console wars since this summer has been the shots fired from Microsoft at Sony by allowing for backwards compatibility. While there are some analysts who believe Sony is perfectly comfortable not allowing for backwards compatibility, Microsoft thinks it’s found the secret to getting an edge. The company is so sure, as a matter of fact, that its actually teasing Sony about just how “easy” it is to offer backwards compatibility.

On the Xbox UK official Twitter account the team put up a video showing how this big new feature works. The video is intentionally short, showing just a young man inserting an Xbox 360 disc into the Xbox One. Of course, we all know it isn’t that easy or the Xbox One would actually have quite a few more Xbox 360 games on its list of those that can be played on the Xbox One. Still, as far as marketing maneuvers go, it’s a little bit brilliant.

The short video certainly seems to beg the question as to why Sony isn’t working on this feature or even announcing they’re looking at it. So far, it doesn’t appear this feature has been much of a game changer when it comes to console sales. That could change as the Holiday season rolls around and more people start looking at what kind of deals they can get. For people who don’t already own the Xbox One but do have the Xbox 360, being able to play their old games on the new console might be a good push.
