Microsoft: Xbox One Controllers Will Work On PCs When Drivers Become Available

Whenever that will be.

The Xbox One has been out for some time now, and despite what Microsoft suggested earlier, the Xbox One controller still does not work on PCs, at least officially. There have been rumours recently that Microsoft will abandon working on drivers for the PC for Xbox One controllers and will instead work solely on a controller made just for Windows.

However, Albert Penello, director of product planning at Xbox, says that is “100 per cent wrong” and that while Microsoft have not ruled out the possibility of a separate Windows controller, they are still working on the drivers.

“When the [PC] drivers become available, they will work with the existing controllers,” Penello wrote on NeoGAF. “There is no plan to do a new, separate controller that only works on Windows. The situation will be the same as it is on Xbox 360 – the Xbox One controller you have today will work.”

There haven’t been much developments yet on that front, but for the impatient souls out there, there are a few unofficial drivers for the Xbox One control pad out on the internet.

Stay tuned, we’ll keep you updated on this.
