Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor to Feature the Black Gates, Barad-Dur, Mount Doom

Monolith's third person adventure will "explore Mordor as a real ecosystem and living world".

Monolith Productions’ Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor will of course take place in the shadowy regions of Mordor, home to Orcs, Nazgul and other fiendish troops of Sauron. But we will have a chance to scope out other locations within Middle-Earth’s worst vacation spot, according to Director of Design, Michael de Plater.

“What was exciting for us about exploring Mordor as a setting is that it is simultaneously so iconic and central to Middle-earth at the same as being something of a mystery, especially at the time when our story begins when Sauron has been absent for millennia.

“Iconic sites like the Black Gates, Barad-Dur and Mount Doom look very different to the blasted hell-scape seen by Sam and Frodo. Additionally we get to travel deeper into Mordor to locations that have never been seen before in games. This lets us explore Mordor as a real ecosystem and living world, answering questions such as how Sauron could feed his massive armies in a land where we have previously only seen arid plains of ash.”

Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor will be out on October 7th for PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. It rips off its fair share of gameplay from better known titles so hopefully the LotR license will lend it some more credibility. Stay tuned for more details.
