Monolith took a fair amount of us by surprise – in both good and bad ways – with Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor. Admittedly, it was the Nemesis system which generated the most amount of interest, especially since it allowed for long-standing consequences in your actions.
It seems current-gen players may not get the most out of it though, as design director Michael de Plater said to IGN that, “We’re very focused on the PS4 and Xbox One. We’re focusing on the next-gen platforms, and then going to do whatever we can to get as much as possible on current-gen.
“To break it down, some of the stuff we’re pretty confident will still be very similar on current gen: the core mechanics, like combat, stealth, ranged and movements; the basic control and gameplay, that should all be really solid. What it won’t have is the same level of depth and variety and simulation within the ‘Nemesis system’.”
The Nemesis system is apparently “just so huge” that in order to calculate the connections, artificial intelligence and keeping track of your choices, a large amount of processing power will be required. So while Monolith will aim to implement as much as possible, you’ll need either the PC version or Xbox One/PS4 version to get the true Nemesis system.
Does that dull your interest in Shadow of Mordor? Let us know in the comments.
