Monster Hunter Wilds Gamescom Demo is Limited to 30 FPS on Consoles

Speedrunner Canta Per Me went hands-on with the PS5 demo at Gamescom 2024 and saw "no option to switch to Performance mode."

Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds has received extensive praise throughout Gamescom, with hands-on impressions and new footage available. However, the title is seemingly limited to running in 30 frames per second.

Attendees can go hands-on with a demo on the show floor, and renowned Monster Hunter streamer/speedrunner Canta Per Me offered their impressions. They revealed that it didn’t run at 60 frames per second but “felt like a stable 30 FPS.” When asked if there was a Performance mode in the options, they replied, “I saw no option to switch to performance mode, but that might change in the full release.”

It’s worth noting that both Monster Hunter World and Monster Hunter Rise were restricted to 30 frames per second when launching for their base consoles. The former could achieve higher frame rates on Xbox One X and PS4 Pro, but these were far from the coveted 60 FPS.

However, this is a demo, and a Performance mode could be in the works for launch, so stay tuned for updates. On the bright side, cutscenes are skippable in the demo, so expect that to carry over.

Monster Hunter Wilds launches in 2025 for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Check out the latest trailer here.
