Mortal Kombat 11 Features “The Biggest Story Mode We’ve Ever Done”, Says Developer

Mortal Kombat 11, get over here already.

Of all the studios out there, NetherRealm is one of the chosen few that focuses a great deal on story and story modes in its fighters. Mortal Kombat X and Injustice 2 have been very recent examples of that, but you can go as far back into their history as a studio as you want, and you’ll see them delivering excellent, bombastic story modes in their fighters time and time again.

With Mortal Kombat 11, they’re taking things even further. Recently, while speaking with God Is A Geek, Matt Burke of NetherRealm Studios, who’s serving as assistant producer, called the upcoming fighter’s story mode “the biggest we’ve ever done”.

“This is definitely the biggest story mode we’ve ever done, in terms of the length,” said Burke. “It’s quite long, and I’m very excited for everyone to play it. Kronika is a super cool boss character, a big bad female character. We’re all excited around the studio about that.”

Meanwhile, the basic narrative setup of having the past and the present clashing with one another is something else that has given rise to a lot of great moments in the campaign, according to Burke. “Having the past and present kind of merge together, getting to see past Lui Kang run into his evil ‘revenant-leader-of-the-NetherRealm-self’ while he’s still the chosen one,” Burke said, “The paragons of virtue, as they both see themselves as that. We have tons of moments like that.”

Not too long ago, NetherRealm Studios also confirmed that Mortal Kombat 11’s story mode will be roughly eight hours long– cause for excitement for quite few, undoubtedly. Recently, the game also received a trailer showing the newly revealed Kitana locked in combat kombat with D’Vorah. Take a look through here.

Mortal Kombat 11 is out on April 23 for the PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
