While excitement for Mortal Kombat 11 is at a fever pitch right now, there’s at least one audience that might be wary of the game—PC players. And they would have every right to be, too, given how poorly handled the PC ports of Mortal Kombat X and Injustice 2 were. Who is to say Mortal Kombat 11 won’t just be repeating those mistakes?
Well, NetherRealm promises that that won’t happen. Paulo Garcia, the lead designer for Mortal Kombat 11, spoke to PC Gamer about the PC port for the game, promising that Polish port house QLOC is handling it. QLOC was the studio that patched the PC ports of Mortal Kombat XL and Injustice 2 up (and made them significantly better than they were at launch), and is generally well regarded by the PC gaming community.
Said Garcia: “[QLOC], the people that did the XL version of Mortal Kombat X, where it was dramatically improved, they’re doing [Mortal Kombat 11] also, and because they’ve been working with our code engine for the past three years, they’ve actually become a lot faster.
“[With Injustice] we would give them like essentially like big dumps of what engine was and then they would port things to catch up, where now we’re a lot more integrated and they’re working with our engineers back and forth like on a day by day basis. The patches for Injustice 2 started coming quicker and quicker until they were able to get the patches out almost right after ours [on console].”
The current plan is for the PC version to get updates and DLC as close to simultaneously with the console versions as is possible. Nonetheless, NetherRealms does admit that there may still be a small delay. Hopefully, small is all the delay will be, and we will never have the situation where PC players had to wait months for updates like with previous NetherRealm games.
