Microsoft have left no stone unturned in their attempt to hype their upcoming motion sensing peripheral, Kinect. They have, of course, also been aided by retailers, who claim that Kinect will be amassing the biggest preorder numbers ever, thus psyching consumers to actually get the thing before it sells out, driving up the pre order numbers even more.
However, if a new study by Groupola.com is any indication, then all this may be pure drivel, as it concludes that in the UK, the PS Move is set to outsell Kinect.
Only 23% of the current Xbox owners are looking intp purchasing Kinect, with 77% citing the price to be too high. Games could be another factor, since only 19% of those surveyed said that the games, which include Joyride, Kinect Adventures and Kinectimals, interest them.
On the other hand, 64% of PS3 owners currently intend to buy the Move.
Well, if this is anything near the truth, then Microsoft better hope that the casuals will lap Kinect up. It must be noted that while the standalone Kinect package is priced quite unreasonably at $149, a Kinect+Xbox 360 S bundle is available for $299, which sounds well and good, and may also present value to the uninformed customer.
Anyway, I really think that neither Kinect nor Move really stand a chance- Sony and Microsoft both missed the train, and motion controls are now indisputably Nintendo territory.
