It looks like Activision is gearing up to announce a new Crash Bandicoot game. The publisher has been sending Wumpa piñatas to media and influencers, which seems to suggest that a new game might be on the brink of being announced.
These packages have been sent in preparation for Crash Bandicoot’s upcoming 25th anniversary, though Activision has, of course, done similar things in the lead-up to announcements previous as well, including with the likes of Spyro Reignited Trilogy and Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled. With the PlayStation Showcase coming up in a few hours and incidentally coinciding the anniversary of Crash Bandicoot, it’s entirely possible that we see a new game announcement soon. Hell, even the official Crash Bandicoot Twitter account seems to be hinting at something.
Rumours of a multiplayer Crash Bandicoot game supposedly called Wumpa League have been doing the rounds for some time now, and interestingly enough, a card accompanying the aforementioned piñatas does mention the word “league” seemingly innocuously. It might not necessarily be related, but then again, maybe it is. Of course, with pretty much every Activision studio currently busy working on Call of Duty right now, there is the question of who would even be making this game, if it is indeed real.
Interestingly enough, earlier this year, Crash voice actor Scott Whyte teased “a fun new project” which may or may not be a Crash game. Read more on that through here.
In July, Activision also launched a Crash Bandicoot Anniversary Bundle, which includes Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy, Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, and Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time.
