NPD August 2013 Report: Madden NFL 25 Dominates Software Sales in US

Software sales up by 21 percent in August.

The NPD Group recently released their August 2013 report which indicated that the Nintendo 3DS had beaten out the Xbox 360 as the top-selling console in August for the US.

But that’s not all. It seems that EA Sports’ Madden NFL 25 was the top selling title for the month, shipping 1 million units in its first week (this despite its predecessor selling 1.65 million a year ago). Overall software sales were also up by 21 percent to $305 million.

Saints Row IV is in second place, followed by Disney Infinity (which shipped 294,000 units since its debut), Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist and Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition.

The NPD Group also revealed sales figures for various Nintendo titles, including Mario & Luigi: Dream Team (at number 6 on the top 10), which sold roughly 190,000 units at both retail and via digital download. Pikmin 3 sold 115,000 units at retail and digital combined while New Super Luigi U sold 120,000 combined units after making its debut at stores.
