Tomorrow’s State of Play kicks off nearly a week’s worth of showcases with various high-profile titles and announcements. That seemingly includes Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Capcom’s long-awaited revival of the fantasy hack-and-slash series, which could get a release date.
According to leaker intercellular, who most recently leaked the logo for Rayman Legends Retold, it’s allegedly launching on September 25th. If you need further reassurance, insider NateTheHate reported that it’s indeed targeting September, even if he doesn’t know whether the above date is correct.
Regardless, it would be a solid release window for Capcom, avoiding The Blood of Dawnwalker, Phantom Blade Zero and potentially Gears of War: E-Day. On the other hand, it won’t have to go toe-to-toe with Grand Theft Auto 6 in November, or even the likes of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 in October.
While it would have seemed to launch sooner, especially since development has been “in the final stages” since last March, you would have to think the company is allocating ample time to marketing. After all, Onimusha is one of Capcom’s better-known franchises, even after such a long absence from the gaming world.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword will launch on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Check out the latest trailer, which outlines everything you need to know about Miyamoto Musashi’s bizarre adventure.
