Outriders Is “A Good Example” Of “Trying To Deliver A Finished Product” At Launch, Says Developer

"Games are not super cheap, so we have to give value for the money that people are paying," says game director Bartek Kmita.

For a while now, developers People Can Fly have remained insistent that their upcoming third person RPG shooter Outriders is going to be a content-complete, fully fleshed-out game at launch. Though it will be offering an experience that looter shooter fans will be familiar with, the developers are not adopting live service model for the game, and instead want to deliver a rich, meaty package right off the bat.

Speaking recently with VGC, game director Bartek Kmita touched upon that once more. Saying that the team wants to “give value for the money that people are paying”, Kmita added that releasing shorter games at full price and then adding to them later is “not the way” the industry should go.

“Let’s be honest: games are not super cheap, so we have to give value for the money that people are paying,” Kmita said. “Games that are short but still full price… I think that is not the way we should go in the industry overall.”

Kmita feels that Outriders is a good example of a game that tries to deliver a full-fledged experience right off the bat, with what he suggests is a meaty campaign and endgame content that encourages reeplayability.

“We are a good example, because we are trying to deliver not a ‘game as a service’ but a finished product,” he said. “We are doing the game that we strongly believe will be fair for the players.

“For the amount of money players will pay for it they will receive a lot of hours of a fun experience, with an endgame that will make it possible to enjoy the game even more. And that’s what I’m expecting as a player too, from other companies.”

Given the recent developments surrounding higher prices for next-gen games (which analysts believe is something many publishers will do), hearing a developer talking about wanting to deliver a full-fledged value for money product comes as something of a comfort. Now to see if People Can Fly make good on their promise.

Outriders releases later this year for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC. Lately, People Can Fly have been sharing new gameplay details on the upcoming shooter, talking about loot and World Tiers little over a month ago, and side quests, new locations, and the Pyromancer class more recently. Stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks and months.
