For all the backlash that Blizzard’s Overwatch 2 has received for going back on promises regarding Hero Mode and PvE, it’s seemingly done very well for the company. Discovered by Timur222 on Twitter, the LinkedIn profile for Sam Saliba, former VP and head of global marketing at Activision Blizzard, reveals that Overwatch 2 has over 50 million active users.
It also reportedly generated $225 million in revenue, surpassing forecasts and Key Performance Indicators by 130 percent. The last major player milestone announced by the publisher was 35 million players for the free-to-play shooter’s launch month, with no official updates since. If legitimate, how the active user count breaks down per mode would be interesting.
Overwatch 2 is available for Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One. It’s currently in the middle of Season 8: Call of the Hunter, which should come to a close next month. Season 9 hasn’t been announced, but Blizzard confirmed that Tank and Damage heroes would receive passive healing. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
