Overwatch 2 has been quite successful for Blizzard. The studio has revealed that the game garnered over 35 million players in the month since its release in October.
“Over 35 million people played the game in its first month, including many who were new to Overwatch,” stated Activision Blizzard in its quarterly reports. “The expanded community is engaging deeply, with average daily player numbers for the first month of Overwatch 2 more than double that of its acclaimed predecessor.”
For context, the original Overwatch saw 15 players over its first three months. The difference in numbers can largely be owed to the fact that Overwatch 2 is a free-to-play game whereas the original was a full-priced release. In fact, Overwatch 2 grew quickly, seeing over 25 million players in its first ten days.
Blizzard also recently unveiled a new hero joining the Overwatch 2 roster with a new trailer. Named Ramattra, the new hero will be coming to the game in an update set for release on December 6 when Overwatch 2 kicks off its second season.
Ramattra has been a part of the Overwatch series lore for a while now, originally showing up during the Storm Rising event in the original Overwatch. The hero will take on the role of a tank.
Overwatch 2 is available for free on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. For more details, check out our review.
