Overwatch – First Experimental Card Arrives Today, Enables 3 DPS Heroes

Players can earn XP and make progress towards event challenges even in the new mode.

Blizzard Entertainment’s Overwatch is undergoing some significant changes to balance, one of them being Hero Pools which goes live next month. The other is the Experimental Card, a game mode that features radical balance changes introduced for a limited time. The key difference between this and the Public Test Server is that players can earn XP and rewards and it’s available for all platforms.

In a new developer update, director Jeff Kaplan revealed that the first Experimental Card would go live today. Dubbed “Triple Damage”, it actually changes the usual 2-2-2 role queue to 3-2-1. This means that teams can field three DPS heroes, two supports and one tank. Of course, as Kaplan states in the video, this isn’t a feature that’s coming to the game – it’s a way to tinker with the norm.

Aside from Hero Pools and Experimental Cards, there’s quite a bit happening with the series. Overwatch 2 is currently in development for Xbox One, PS4, PC, and Nintendo Switch, and will feature story campaign. Players of the original game can also carry over their progress and access the new maps and heroes without purchasing the sequel.
