Overwatch Hero Bans in Development – Rumor

The feature could be added in the next few weeks.

One of the more requested – and controversial – features that some players have wanted for Blizzard’s Overwatch are hero bans. Similar to League of Legends or Dota 2, the opposing team would have their pick of which hero to ban from their opponent’s side. This would allow for different team compositions to be played and add more variety to matches.

While such a method isn’t guaranteed to shake up the meta – at least not like role queue – it does seem to be on the way. According to Metro on Twitter, who previously leaked details for Ashe and Overwatch 2 before their official announcements, “Big update for Overwatch is rumored in a few weeks. It is very likely that hero bans will be added to the game as the dev team has been working on them for a while!”

He does say to take this particular rumor with a grain of salt since the source is different from the one that provides BlizzCon leaks. While hero bans have apparently been in development and a bigger update is indeed on the way, we’ll have to wait and see if they’re indeed the same thing. It would make sense especially with Overwatch League’s 2020 season starting in February.

As for Overwatch 2, it’s currently in development for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Nintendo Switch. Despite Blizzard having “no idea” when it’s releasing, deleted tweets from sources like PlayStation Brazil have indicated 2020 release.
