PlatinumGames announced Project G.G. last year, the next game to be directed by Hideki Kamiya. When it launches – whenever that will be – it will also be the first new game to be published by PlatinumGames themselves (they also published The Wonderful 101: Remastered last year), and that, among other things, means the developer will be free to share details on the game however it pleases.
Speaking in a recent interview with VGC, Kamiya said that owing to the fact that there is no publisher that they’re working with for the game, he will be free to share new stuff on the game whenever he likes.
“Since we’re self-publishing, there are no publishers to get mad at me this time, so I’ll be sharing things online, putting up screenshots whenever I like,” he said.
Meanwhile, studio head Atsushi Inaba also spoke about the same, saying that PlatinumGames will be more open with fans and “have a closer interaction” with them.
“I think we would really like to make this something that is more open and visible to our fans and the media,” Inaba said. “What we have at the moment, we just did a short little teaser and then it’s been a year since then. But that’s not how we always want things to be: we definitely want to have a closer interaction with our fans and so we’re hoping to get to that development style where we can share things as we move along.”
Inaba went on to explain that different publishers have different approaches to supervision as far as rollout of information on games is concerned, but with Project G.G., PlatinumGames is “hoping to be more open.”
“We don’t have that much say over projects that we’re not publishing,” Inaba said. “And we understand different titles require different approaches, so we respect the publisher’s decisions.
“So if there is a difference between what we want to do with Project G.G. versus what we normally do with our other titles, it’s not really a criticism for those publishers: we respect their approaches. But for this title especially, our approach as a company is that we’re hoping to be more open.”
Other than Project G.G., PlatinumGames are currently working on several other projects, including Bayonetta 3 (which is to be published by Nintendo) and Babylon’s Fall (which will be published by Square Enix).
Project G.G., meanwhile, is likely to be cross-gen title whenever it launches- though it’s unlikely to release any time soon.
