PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Falls Below 1 Million Concurrent Players For The First Time in a Year

The battlegrounds are growing significantly less crowded.

While Fortnite, which is now the most popular game in the world, has gone ahead and stolen all of its glory, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds remains incredibly successful in its own right- so successful that it went full year maintaining a peak concurrent player count on Steam of over a million. It became the first game ever to do so in the process, according to SteamDB.

That’s fantastic- however, the news is bittersweet. SteamDB also reveals that on the day after that year had passed, the player concurrent count fell to 960,000 players- making this the first time in a year that it has dipped below a million. At its peak, PUBG had concurrent counts of 3 million, so this is definitely proof of some of its lost shine and lustre. Other battle royale games now exist, and attract followings, too.

With the upcoming battle royale modes for Call of Duty and Battlefield, competition will only get even fiercer. While I am sure PUBG will always be popular, will it ever reclaim its lost heights? We’ll see if PUBG Corp. can actually get the game back to its former stature.
