PlayStation Now Generated More Revenue in 2018 than Xbox Game Pass and Origin Access

PS Now earned $143 million in 2018.

Though Microsoft has been making a great push to promote Xbox Game Pass – which keeps on becoming a much more attractive service with each new round of games added to its library – Sony is still ahead of them, and other competitors- at least as far as revenue is concerned.

As per a recent report by SuperData, PlayStation Now generated more revenue in 2018 than any other subscription based service, including the likes of Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass, and EA’s Origin Access (for PCs) and EA Access (for Xbox One) services. In total, PlayStation Now earned $143 million in 2018, and was ahead of all competitors.

In Q3 2018 alone, the three top-most subscription based gaming services (EA Access, Game Pass, PS Now) cumulatively earned $273 million. 52 per cent of this was contributed by PS Now, 16 per cent by EA Access, 15 per cent by Xbox Game Pass, 9 per cent by Origin Access Premier, and the remaining 8 per cent by the basic version of Origin Access. Collectively, then, EA, too, charts ahead of Microsoft’s subscription service as far as revenue generation is concerned.

With Microsoft clearly looking to take their commitment to Game Pass forward, and Sony looking to make similar strides (and we can only assume that EA isn’t going to taper off either), it’ll be interesting to see what sort of growth these three services – and other potential newcomers – show in the future.
