We’ve been hearing rumblings about an upcoming PlayStation Showcase event for a while now, but it seems like that might finally be coming to a head soon, with an announcement allegedly coming as soon as later today.
That’s as per @billbil_kun on Twitter, a known insider with a proven track record in leaks, who recently claimed that Sony will be announcing the date for its PlayStation Showcase later today. As per previous leaks, the event is scheduled for sometime next week. Over on ResetEra, journalist Jason Schreier also recently chimed in on the rumours, saying, “A PlayStation showcase is happening very soon.”
It’s been previously claimed that the upcoming PlayStation Showcase event will “set up the second phase of the PS5”, with number of major announcements and updates expected for first and third party titles alike. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which is due out this Fall, is likely to show up, while Naughty Dog’s standalone The Last of Us multiplayer title could also get its official unveiling.
Additionally, leaks have claimed that Konami’s long-rumoured remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 will be announced as PS5 exclusive (or at least as timed PS5 exclusive), while NetherRealm Studios has also been teasing the next Mortal Kombat game, which is allegedly going to be a reboot called Mortal Kombat 1.
