Iron Gate AB’s open world survival game Valheim has been an absolute revelation since it launched into early acces in the beginning of February. On top of being widely praised from those who have been paying it, the game has already amassed over 5 million players, and with the promise of continued support and consistent improvements, it’s likely that that playerbase will only grow as time goes on. It goes without saying, then, that those who prefer to play their games somewhere other than PC will be wondering whether Valheim will be making the jump to other platforms down the road, with the Nintendo Switch especially seeming like a perfect fit for a game like that for obvious reasons.
One studio that may have some interest in getting the chance to take over such porting duties is Panic Button. From Rocket League, Warframe, and Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus to DOOM Eternal, Apex Legends, and Subnautica, Panic Button has been responsible for a number of excellent Switch ports of games, and speaking recently to Nintendo Life, head of production Dan Hernberg said that he’d love to be able to bring Valheim to the system as well.
“I’m not sure if this is my ‘any game pick’ but, right now I’m playing way too much Valheim and I would love to port that to Switch,” he said.
Of course, it goes without saying that this is just Hernberg talking about something he’d like to do, so it isn’t necessarily something that will happen, especially since Panic Button’s technical director Andy Boggs followed that up with saying that he personally would like to see Bloodborne on the Switch. That said, Valheim on the Switch would be a great fit, and port wizards Panic Button would surely be the right people to bring it over to the platform- especially seeing as Iron Gate, already very small studio, have their hands full with more pressing stuff right now.
