PS4 and PS3 Launch Titles Compared: Killzone Shadow Fall Vs. Resistance

We've come a long, long way.

It’s amazing that we’ve come so far in the span of just seven years. In November 2006, the PlayStation 3 launched and was widely hailed as the most powerful machine at the time. The PlayStation 4 repeated this trend, despite there being far more naysayers now than seven years ago. But what’s most interesting isn’t the difference in technology – it’s in the launch titles.

The PlayStation 3 had Insomniac’s Resistance: Fall of Man while the PlayStation 4 has Guerrilla Games’ Killzone: Shadow Fall. Coincidence that both consoles launch with shooters? Regardless, it’s interesting to compare the detail in the textures, effects, draw distance and even the resolution of both games.

Remember the days when Resistance had a couple of enemy soldiers in screen? That was of course eclipsed by Resistance 2’s hulking behemoths, and with Killzone: Shadow Fall’s ability to have 24 enemy AIs on screen at once without a dip in frame-rate, it’s just plain fascinating to consider how far we’ve come.

Killzone: Shadow Fall releases on November 15th in North America and November 29th in Europe.
