PS5 Processor Reportedly Entering Final Stages of Manufacturing Process

Production will reportedly be in full-swing by August.

With the PS5 months away from its intended release window, it goes without saying that production pipelines for the console will also be gering up for the launch very soon – if they haven’t already – and report by Digitimes states that that is very much the case.

The PS5 is confirmed to be using a custom variant of AMD’s Zen 2 processor as its CPU (as is the Xbox Series X), and this new report states that the chip is entering the final stages of its manufacturing process. Sources with the semiconductor supply chain working on the chip have reportedly informed Digitimes that the processor will enter final testing next week, before entering the large-scale manufacturing process afterward. Manufacturing should reportedly enter full-swing by August.

While this does not come from official sources, it does fit the timeline for the PS5’s expected launch date. If the console does indeed release globally this Holiday – which Sony assures will happen – then production should be beginning right about now.

AMD also stated last month that production on chips for both next-gen consoles was about to commence soon. Read more on that through here.
