Quantic Dream Looks To Experiment With Shorter Games

David Cage thinks the company can do something with shorter titles.

Quantic Dream has had a pretty big couple of years. The company saw their most successful game ever in the form of Detroit: Become Human, and have since decided to go multiplatform after many years of working exclusively with Sony, as well as become third party publisher. What’s next on the game side? Well, they aren’t ready to reveal that just yet, but does seem they may be thinking on the shorter side.

In an interview with OnlySP, Studio Head David Cage talked about the potential of experimentation now that the company is going down these different paths. He said they are looking into doing something with shorter games, something that will help open them up to some different types of storytelling ideas. He is cautious, though, saying that some developers have been burned in recent years for such projects.

“Back to your question, we would consider any type of format in the future, as long as it makes sense from a creative point of view and for our players. I would really like to work on shorter experiences to experiment with new ideas, but in reality, it remains to be seen whether there is a market for such experiences.

“Many titles suffered trying to experiment with shorter formats, so I would say that this is something we’ll keep an eye on, but we will need to find an experience that is perfectly suited before experimenting with a shorter format.”

The company is generally known for fairly lengthy games, so it’s interesting to see them think about shorter experiences. Whatever the company will come up is sure to be interesting either way.
