Earlier this year, Rebel Wolves was unveiled as a new development studio, comprised of a number of former CD Projekt RED veterans, including many who worked on The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, with The Witcher 3 director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz serving as its founder and CEO. Now, the studio has announced another major development.
It’s been announced that Rebel Wolves has secured a strategic investment partnership which Chinese tech giant NetEase Games. NetEase has, as a result, acquired a minority stake in the studio, though Rebel Wolves will retain full operation independence and full creative control of its projects.
“Having one of the leading global game companies get behind our vision is a great confidence boost and validation for the entire team at Rebel Wolves,” said Tomaszkiewicz. “Funding provided by NetEase was the last missing piece needed to go full throttle. With resources available to build a world-class AAA game, we can now focus on what matters most: development.”
Rebel Wolves’ first game is a AAA dark fantasy action RPG. It’s being developed for PC and current-gen consoles using Unreal Engine 5, and is planned as the first instalment in a longer saga.
