Red Dead Redemption 2 Title Update Fixes HDR, Adds Calibration Menu

A choice between Cinematic HDR and Game HDR is now available.

The most recent title update for Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption 2 added bevy of new content to Red Dead Online. such as new story missions, Free Roam events and play-styles. It also signalled the online mode’s exit from beta since it first launched in November 2018. However, one new change that will please offline players is that HDR seems to be fixed.

With this update, a menu options for HDR Calibration has been added, allowing for switching between Cinematic HDR and Game HDR. You can also adjust the peak brightness values manually to fit certain displays. How effective this will be remains to be seen.

When Red Dead Redemption 2 first launched, it encountered issues with high-dynamic range lighting, delivering less realistic lighting than true HDR offers. It made the overall image look more faded in colour than it normally should. Testing will be required to see if the patch fixes those issues, so stay tuned for more details.

Meanwhile, if you’re interested in trying out Red Dead Online for yourself, the mode is free for PS4 (even non-PS Plus users) till May 27th.
