Remedy Entertainment has been on the road to impressive expansions over the last couple of years, and the next step forward on that journey is a new studio. The developer has confirmed that it is officially expanding to Sweden some time in 2022 with a new studio.
The studio stated that it had already been remotely working with “multiple Sweden–based talent” for over a year “as part of a pilot initiative in Stockholm” led by Johnny Mang, who is the general manager of the studio’s Vanguard project, which is the name currently given to an in-development multiplayer game. Mang said: “The shift to location-agnostic work in the wake of COVID made us realize that Remedy is a state of mind, rather than a place in Finland.”
Remedy says it intends to open up its new studio in Stockholm, Sweden within the first half of 2022, and by the end of 2022, plans on hiring up to 25 developers in the location. Recruitment of senior level developers for the new studio is already underway. The studio will follow a mixed model of in-office work and remote work.
“We understand that everyone is different, and has different needs, on different days,” said James Salt, one of Remedy’s game directors based in Sweden. “Some days are best spent focused, headphones on, working on something cool, whereas other days, such as when teams are working on planning, perhaps would benefit from in-person facetime. The hybrid model is about letting people choose the method that works best for them, on any given day.”
Remedy Entertainment has a lot of irons in the fire at the moment. Earlier this year, the developer revealed that it had five projects in development across four development teams, which includes the aforementioned Vanguard and the single player campaign for CrossfireX. The studio also has publishing agreement with Epic Games for two unannounced games, one of which – strongly rumoured to be Alan Wake 2 – recently entered full production.
