Ever since Remedy Entertainment acquired the publishing rights to Alan Wake, many wondered whether the long-awaited sequel would finally become real. With Wake playing a central role in Control’s AWE expansion, the time seemed ripe for his return. According to VentureBeat’s Jeff Grubb, it seems that Alan Wake 2 is indeed in development.

As revealed on Grubb’s Twitch channel (from 11:40 onwards), the project is reportedly being funded by Epic Games. Though there was a bidding war with different companies, Epic offered the best deal. Last year in March, Remedy confirmed that it was working on two unannounced next-gen projects with Epic Games as the publisher. Along with receiving complete funding, net revenues would be split 50/50 between the two.

Remedy would also get to retain ownership over its IP and have full creative freedom. With the developer pushing its own connected universe, an Alan Wake sequel certainly makes sense. As Grubb notes, it “should be” the follow-up that fans have waited for though when it will be announced remains to be seen. Stay tuned for more details, hopefully this year.
