Capcom has done an incredible job over the years of remaking its older Resident Evil titles, but the actual original releases of those beloved classics have largely been left stranded on outdated platforms, making access to them significantly more complicated. Demand for re-releases of the original Resident Evil trilogy on modern platforms has been high, then, and as a recent rating for the original suggested, that is finally happening- partially, at least.
The original Resident Evil is now available on GOG. The survival horror classic did, of course, release for PC back upon its original launch nearly three decades ago, but it has become increasingly difficult to purchase on the platform, not even being available on Steam
In addition to Resident Evil 1, the original Resident Evil 2 and 3 are also coming to GOG. All three will be available to purchase individually, though you can also purchase a bundle of the entire trilogy. Doing so now will give you access to the first game, while pre-purchasing the next two. A specific release date for RE2 and 3 on GOG is unknown, but they will both release before the end of 2024.
With recent leaks having claimed that another remake of the original Resident Evil isn’t actually happening yet, and that Capcom is instead developing remakes of Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica, this PC re-release will be a great excuse for fans of the original to dive back into Spencer Mansion and its nightmares.
