The highly anticipated upcoming remake (re-imagining?) of Resident Evil 2 is just a little over a month away from launch, and excitement surrounding the release is continuing to mount with each passing day. For the legions of fans of the series, getting to play a modernized and remade version of what many consider to be one of the best games in the Resident Evil series has been a dream for years, so it would be fair to say that every day until it launches is feeling like torture.
As it turns out, those who cannot wait any more might just be in luck, and could get the chance to play bits of the game before its launch. A description for a demo of Resident Evil 2, which supposedly arrives on January 11, has been spotted by True Achievements on the Xbox Store- but there’s a catch. The demo is going to offer you a very limited window to play the game- you can restart upon dying as many times as you want, but you can only play the demo for a total of thirty minutes. As soon as the timer is up, demo’s over.
Being called the “1-Shot Demo”, it will put players in the Raccoon City Police Department building at the beginning of the game, and give them complete freedom for the allotted time period. The description also mentions that the demo will be available until January 31, which is interesting, because that’s a few days after the launch of the full game itself.
Do note that this hasn’t been confirmed by Capcom- sure, it sounds quite legit, and Capcom is no stranger to releasing demos for its most major games (it did so for Resident Evil 7, and very recently, for Devil May Cry 5), so this may very well be true- but for now, treat it as the unconfirmed report that it is.
Resident Evil 2 itself launches on January 25 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It will require just 21 GB of your system’s storage space. Apparently, over 800 Capcom staffers worked on the game– that should give you an idea of the scope of the project.
