On the heels of the news of Resident Evil, the franchise, crossing significant sales milestone earlier today, we now also have news of the newest game in the series, Resident Evil 2, crossing a milestone of its own. In a press release today, Capcom announced that shipments of the game have crossed 4 million worldwide.
The original Resident Evil 2, which launched in 1998, sold 4.96 million units over its lifetime, which means that the new remake is actually very close to meeting its total lifetime sales already. Given the overwhelmingly positive response the game has gotten, it’s no surprise that players have taken to it as well as they apparently have. If the exceptional legs enjoyed by Resident Evil 7 (as well as previous games in the series, such as Resident Evil 4) are anything to go by, we can probably expect Resident Evil 2 to end up with lifetime shipments far exceeding its current number.
Resident Evil 2 is out now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
